Penelope & Bella Review - Maternity Shawl

15 March 2017

It seems that since I had my first baby in 2012 maternity clothing has come a long way since the suitcase of “maternity” clothes that my friends and I passed around that were mostly just larger sized normal clothing. So when I find good maternity clothes I get excited!

Thankfully I have come across Paula Jones of the Penelope and Bella blog and online store. Paula started her blog in 2015 and her online maternity range the following year. She has four versatile items that she sells. The materials are all locally sourced and made in the friendly city of Port Elizabeth.

I have had the treat of wearing the Penelope Shawl (retails at R295). This is my third pregnancy and having a deluxe item to wear is such a pleasure especially when it’s something that is so versatile and can be used even after pregnancy.

This shawl comes in one colour a warm coffee – I was not totally sold on the colour as I never wear browns and the colour online didn’t look enticing to me. Well, I had a wonderful surprise when it arrived! It is definitely a warm coffee colour but it also has threads of off-white and lighter brown giving it a textured look and depth that allows me to wear it with anything.

It can be worn in a variety of ways from an off the shoulder shawl to a scarf. It can also double as feeding shawl, a swaddle blanket or car seat cover once the baby is here. It closes with poppers so there are no loose bits that will hurt baby or get in the way. This is another item that is maternity suitcase worthy!

Go along to and do yourselves a favour and have a look at all the simple but stylish items Penelope and Bella retail. Penelope and Bella are giving away one of these lovely shawls to a lucky reader so enter straight away!
